As a young man in a wide world, I’m doing my best to experience life to the fullest through the enjoyment and chances that I have. Below is a list of my life in a collection of rag-tag pictures and blurbs which, according to some, is an impressive life so far.
The Portfolio of River Greenfield
Writing:
My father was a writer. A good one. If you want to read more on him, this isn’t the place; this is about how great I am. On an unrelated note, I’m ever so humble; maybe the humblest.
Really though, I wouldn’t consider myself a sorry writer by any means. I’ve accumulated more than 2,000 pages so far written 3 different book drafts, 7 different book series plots and really studied what draws humans to stories. I’m going to plod on as a life goal to stake my place among the greatest writers known to humankind.
Travel:
I’ve travelled more than most men ever will. To name all the places would have my fingers sore from typing and this paragraph so long I’ll have to add it to the writing block above. However I will absolutely clue you in on some of my favorites:
- Pacific Northwest, America. I went on a 3 month gap trip driving through America on my own money and I’ve got to say it was one of the best experiences of my life.
- Italy. Bless the Lord he in his might created Italy. The wines, the cheeses, the breads and of course the famous gelato are all incredible contributions to society making Italy great even aside from it’s stunning beauty. I’m proud to say I biked through Italy.
- Hawaii. I’ve been there to hunt three times now; another this year and every time Hawaii just gets better. To go on a hike and find fruit you can eat right of the path is something of a distant island to the shores of Heaven. Truly a magnificent place.
Podcasting:
I started a podcast with my twin brother Terran when I was 8 and I must say it was one of the most fun, time-well-spent, and learned times of my life. We owned a cooking show together and made far too many messes in the kitchen sink than I’m willing to admit. Still, we learned how to create a business as well as gain social traction and I’m so grateful for it.
Obstacle Racing:
My father, if you don’t know is something of a prodigy in Ironman racing and SPARTAN racing. Naturally, I grew up in that and dabbled in it myself. Its loads of fun and on numerous occasion I was able to get first place in my age class and more importantly: beat my brother. Sadly, no victory over ol’ dad. I’ll get there one day.
From this I’ve learned perseverance, determination and the sheer desire to succeed amidst pain and hard work.
Speech and Debate:
Truthfully, and I mean this; if you haven’t participated in the world of speech, debate and politics then you need to and you need to now. I’ve competed in over 10 speech and debate competitions alongside my brother in debate as well as attended political conventions such as AmericaFest hosted by TurningPointUSA. The friends and like-minded individuals you are able to meet is unmatched and I’ve been able to learn networking and communication through this outlet. Thanks Charlie Kirk!
Theology:
One of the most influential and important tasks of a young Christian is to understand God (as best you can) and the religion He upholds. As I find it, reading books of the greats– Mere Christianity and the likes is the best way to gain knowledge on the generalities of our religion. Then, to go out and practice those generalities is another to-do, finally and most important is to go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father who is in Heaven. Devotion time, meditation and the reading of God’s word in the wee hours of the morning or on a walk through the curling fog is by far, out of all I’ve done, the strongest contender to understanding who you are, who God is, and how you can spread Christ and His message as the waters cover the sea.
To that end, I’ve learned purpose, life fulfillment, reason and wisdom.
Sports and Hunting:
Wether it be finding myself in the sweaty legs of a 40 year old practicing his triangle lock on my head or slamming a ball into the net as I try my best to win a Tennis tournament; sports have been, are, and will always hold a spot in my heart.
I’ve practiced Jujitsu, played Tennis, engaged in Pickleball, tried my hand at Basketball (rather shoddily), competed in Archery as well as Gun-slinging, been a part of obstacle racing, swimming heats, and even the occasional soccer match. There’s so much to tell here I might have to make a private page just for sports and hunting but at any rate: I’ve learned how to be a team, how to keep a cool, strategy and of course, endurance.
Education:
Keeping a level head from sports is great but having a well-educated head is far better. By being homeschooled I am able to learn to the fullest of my ability the subjects I desire most to learn, those being: Science, History, Literature, Math, Physical Education, and the brunt of Liberal Arts. I’ve gotten my SAT and am looking towards writing and entrepreneurship aside from college but all the same; I’ve gained the necessary skills to be a wise, discerning and a learned human at my immediate ready.
Legacy
It’s not so much a big part of today’s culture. We as Americans are all about taking; never giving, never leaving behind and that ought not to be read lightly. Leaving a legacy is among the most fruitful, rewarding and purpose-fulfilling actions one can take. My family and I have created a family constitution, crest and playbook by which we and the Greenfield’s to come will live by. By doing this I’ve been able to accumulate skills in selflessness, looking towards the future and to Christ.
Nature
One of the biggest parts of my life is nature. I help to mentor at wilderness camps, I’ve gone through a Rite of Passage in the wilderness, I’m doing another this Spring– I’ve learned how to survive should a zombie apocalypse or Kamala Harris Presidency come to pass and it’s a ridiculously underrated skill in this day in age.
By learning how to start fires on my own, build shelter and filter water, I’m able to prove my ability to be independent and confident no matter the situation, safe or dangerous, I’ll be able to take it head on with cool emotion.
Literature
Historical books: Odyssey, Herodotus, and Plutarch. Lifestyle books: 4-Hour Work Week, Sacred Economics, Discipline is Destiny. To name a few. Books are, no doubt, the great path to knowledge, wisdom, and legacy. By a master of his trade putting what he knows into a book I am able to study his victories and learn from his mistakes without ever having to experience them myself. I am able to learn from the greats and enthuse myself in the pillars of fiction. Truly, and I don’t say this lightly; both speaking and writing are humanity’s greatest strength.
Music
I love music. It’s true. I admit it. I have 4 separate playlists; each more than 40 hours long because music is just a soul-feeding, incredible art and I shall never part with it. I play both piano, guitar and even once I believe a flute. Music truly is a form of magic. By practicing it I’ve been fortunate enough to master skills such as timing, patience and practice; all three important.
